“I can see you change!” ~ Finding Your Passion Does Change You…

The other thing about passion is once you finally understand what your passion is everyone else wants to tell you why it’s the wrong time to pursue it.” ~ Isidore ‘Izzy’ S. Kharasch, owner and president, Hospitality Works, Inc.: excerpted from Ignite Your Passion © 2009, April M. Williams.

I’ve got to admit, I was pretty excited when April M. Williams, owner of CyberLife Tutors invited me to talk with her about her new book.  With the launch of Ignite Your Passion, April is presenting a work of passionate truth.

In this book, 16 authors including April M. Williams, Isidore ‘Izzy’ S. Kharasch, Wally Amos (Famous Amos Cookies), and others, talk about their passion.  Not just what it is mind you, but how they discovered it and their discovery process.

Ignite Your Passion.  That sounds wonderful, all well and good.  Yet…  We all know that finding, let alone igniting our passion isn’t as easy as it sounds.

That then begs the question…

April, this was obviously a LOT of WORK!  What on Earth made you think writing this book, coordinating an effort between 15 other co-authors, and then putting it out for the world to read, was a good idea?

“Yes, I guess it was a lot of work.  But what it really was… was fun!  I get excited about doing what I do, career coaching, writing, and public speaking which I love the most.  It all makes me so passionate.  When people would ask about what I do I started noticing their responses.  They’d actually say they couldn’t believe the change in me… “I can see you change!”  They could see and feel my excitement and passion.  That caused me to study people I interact with even more closely.  I’m no psychologist, but just by paying attention to people and seeing those who truly are passionate about what they do ignites a spark in me.  So, sharing their stories about their passions just seemed to make sense.”

How did you decide on which co-authors to work with?

“I began studying people and started to develop my instinct to recognize people with passion.  I can see the sparkle in their eye, the spring in their step and feel their love for what they do.  It just shows.  The co-authors are all people who outwardly show how happy and fulfilled in what they are doing.  They’re also people who are constantly, through their own love and joy, expanding their network.  They’re inspiring.”

Not counting yours, what is your favorite chapter in the book and why?

“Now that’s not fair!  That’s like asking me which child is my favorite.  Each one is so uniquely different.  I truly love the variety their stories provide.  It’s a common theme, but they all share a different perspective.  [The contributing authors range] from a carriage driver and novelist, to recruiters, a chief information officer, to the former Head Chef of Harvard University…  They’re all coming from such different and unique places.  I’m so thrilled that each of them contributed.  It’s just so wonderful.”

What is the book designed to do?  How will readers benefit from the efforts of the authors?

“Readers will come away motivated and inspired to try something new.  The book is about being much more open to expanding your network, being open to new people.  Letting new relationships go where they may.  You never know when following a new path will lead to something extraordinary.  That’s where I’d like to lead people – to be open to possibilities!”
